Objectives

Training engineers specialised in the construction of buildings which offer high energy efficiency and smart electronic systems for the occupant’s comfort. The engineers on this course acquire traditional construction skills combined with a sound knowledge of renewable resources and information and communication technologies.

Philosophy

The scarcity of fossil energy sources (oil, gas and coal) and global warming caused by discarded following their massive use gas have led governments to take immediate action and long-term to limit the consequences of this state of done on human activity and nature. In France, all economic sectors, the construction sector (commercial and residential) is the largest energy consumer with 43​​% of the energy consumed (ADEME 2009 figures). The building also produces 23% of national CO2 emissions. It is therefore a huge deposit saving energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. That is why the Grenelle Environment called for reducing energy consumption by 38% by 2020 for existing buildings, and a technological breakthrough in the new building for the universalization of positive energy buildings the goal in 2020 is to divide the consumption and emissions of the sector by four by 2050.

At the same time, new issues related to occupant appeared: Thanks to advances in medicine, life expectancy in France is increasing by about three months every year. Technical solutions exist already to meet these challenges. Engineers capable of implementing them must be trained. These engineers a new profile intimately associate the traditional bases of Civil Engineering - Building, green building and tools of Information Technology and Communication. These engineers should be able to propose and implement existing technical solutions, but also to participate in the design of future technologies.
